Getting started

From sign-up to your first live AI call in under 10 minutes.

1. Create an account

Go to https://zazavoice.com and click Start free (or sign in with Google). Every new account begins on a 7-day Trial that includes:

  • 27 voice minutes
  • 9 SMS
  • 1 voice agent
  • 100 contacts
  • 0 phone numbers (you'll add a card before buying one)

No credit card required for the trial itself.

2. Add a payment method (only when you need a number)

The trial caps phone numbers at 0 — to buy a real number you'll need a card on file. The dashboard prompts you for one the first time you click Buy a number. Cards are processed by Stripe; we never see the card details.

If you'd rather not commit to a monthly plan, choose Pay-as-you-go (PAYG) on the Billing page and top up a wallet — see Billing.

3. Buy your first phone number

Open Dashboard → Phone Numbers → Buy a Number.

  1. Pick a country, an optional area code, and Local vs Toll-free.
  2. Click Search. Results show each number's capabilities — look for the green SMS badge if you need texting; otherwise you'll get a voice-only number.
  3. Click Buy next to a result. The number is provisioned at the carrier within ~60 seconds and the first month is charged.

Note: international numbers (e.g. AU, GB) may require a Twilio regulatory bundle (an address + identity record). You'll see a clear error message if that step is needed.

4. Create your first voice agent

Open Dashboard → Voice Agents → Create Agent.

Minimum to launch:

  • Name — what you'll call it internally.
  • Personality — Professional / Friendly / Casual / Formal / Empathetic. This shapes the tone.
  • Voice — pick one from the library. Tap the play button to hear a sample.
  • Greeting — what the AI says first ("Hi, this is Zara from Acme…"). Supports {{NAME}} and any campaign variable.
  • Custom system prompt — describe the agent's job: who it talks to, what it should do, what it must never say.

Hit Create. You can refine prompts and attach a knowledge base later.

5. Connect the agent to your number

Back on Phone Numbers, find your new number → Connect Agent → pick the agent. Inbound calls to that number now ring the AI.

6. Make a test call

Call your number from your phone. The AI answers with your greeting. Try asking it questions — it should respond using your custom system prompt.

When the call ends, open Dashboard → Calls to see the full transcript, sentiment, disposition, and cost for that call.

7. Where to next

Common stumbles

  • "This number can't send SMS." Some local/toll-free numbers are voice-only. Check the capabilities badge on the search result before buying.
  • "Buy" button errors with NEEDS_PAYMENT_METHOD. Add a card via Dashboard → Billing first.
  • "Failed to deliver to AU." Twilio's geo permissions for the destination country need to be enabled in your Messaging settings. See Troubleshooting.
  • Agent answers but says nothing. Make sure the agent is Active (toggle on the agent card) and the number is connected to it.
